The mandate of CWind is to commercialize and mass produce a more efficient, financeable wind turbine drive from rated powers of 30KW to 7.5MW, utilizing the friction drive invention.
CWind has successfully operated a 65KW wind turbine since January 2007. The company has proven with an apple to apples comparison, of an industry standard gearbox driven unit, that the CWind drive gained 25% more operating efficiency per annum. The unit successfully absorbed sudden wind gusts, with no damage to the generating components and proved the friction drive for wind turbine applications.
In fiscal 2009/10, CWind completed the detailed mechanical design of a 2.0MW wind turbine drive and successfully tested the friction components at a 5:1 scale.
